Echoes in Yellow

On Sunday, I took my child to a birthday party held by one of his classmates at Kelmarsh Hall. While the children played cricket on the lawn, a few of the mums and I wandered off for a stroll through the garden. It was breathtakingly beautiful — as if time itself had gently paused. Flowers of all kinds were in full bloom, their scents mingling softly in the air. Life shimmered in every leaf, in every whisper of breeze. As I slowly followed the winding paths, I felt a quiet harmony settle over me, as though the still vitality of the flowers was gently soothing something deep within.

Eventually, I stopped in front of a fully blossomed yellow rose. She stood with such grace, her branches heavy with golden blooms, swaying ever so slightly in the wind — as if nodding a silent greeting. We gazed at each other, and in that fleeting moment, I imagined I could hear her say, ever so softly, “You’re here.”

A sudden impulse rose from within — quiet, yet irresistible. I felt compelled to paint her. To capture her presence in the breeze, to honour that delicate yet unshakeable elegance. Back in the studio, I reached for my watercolours and poured that moment of recognition, that gentle stirring of the heart, onto paper.
