About Christina Jiang
My name is Christina Jiang, and I am a watercolour artist based in the UK. Originally from the vibrant city of Chongqing in China—a bustling metropolis full of energy and colour—my current home in the peaceful countryside of Rutland is a world apart. Yet, both places have shaped the artist I am today.
Art has always been my life force. I studied Art and Design at the prestigious Sichuan University, where I nurtured the creative spark that began in childhood—always with a brush in hand, always reaching for beauty. It was there that I honed the skills that continue to evolve with every piece I create.
Watercolour, for me, is a deeply emotional and spiritual medium. Its softness and unpredictability allow me to explore the delicate layers of feeling, memory, and nature. My work focuses on gentle floral subjects, especially roses, which I return to time and again. Roses speak to us in so many ways—of love, loss, remembrance, and joy. Their petals unfold like the stories we carry: personal, universal, timeless.
Each rose I paint is unique, whether glistening in morning dew or heavy with rain, whether basking in golden sunlight or fading into twilight. The ever-changing nature of roses mirrors our own lives. I use watercolour’s translucent layers to explore contrasts between warm and cool tones, playing with light, shadow, and emotion to create atmosphere. My paintings hover between realism and dream—part observation, part imagination.
As you explore my work, you’ll find traces of both Chinese and European artistic influences. My style reflects a fusion of these traditions—where ink-like flow meets layered colour, where bold expression meets delicate restraint. Painting, to me, is both a craft and a meditation. I lose myself in the rhythm of the brush, and it becomes an extension of my hand, my heart, and my inner voice.
I also share this joy through the courses I teach. I believe everyone deserves the chance to experience the calming, almost therapeutic, freedom of painting. Watching students let go of their worries as they create something beautiful is one of the greatest rewards of my journey as an artist.
Over the years, I’ve been fortunate to hold several successful exhibitions, and I’m proud to know that my paintings now live in many homes, bringing a sense of calm and joy to those who see them.
Ultimately, I paint to express something deeply personal—and yet I hope my work speaks to others, too. Through art, I’ve gained confidence, clarity, and connection. Painting has become one of the most meaningful parts of my life, and I’m grateful to share it with the world.
